When the youths of NYC come into foster care, there are many kids who are already extremely behind with their education compared to the average teen. Most of these youths have been a victim of abuse and/or neglect, which contributes to their lack of success at school. These children are more likely to become incarcerated, high school dropouts, or repeat grades, but with your help, we may be witnessing the first few tentative steps of a budding young physician, attorney, teacher, inventor, law enforcement officer, or artist. The opportunities are as wide-reaching as the dreams of these promising young people—dreams that we hope to nourish through this year’s ADP program.
St. Vincent’s Services is committed to providing our youth with the tools and supports they need in order to overcome their challenges and achieve academic success through the American Dream Program. Our ADP graduates are alumni of some of our nation’s most prestigious schools and the most rigorous professional and vocational training programs, and are enjoying lives characterized by self-sufficiency and career and personal satisfaction. These young people’s lives could have taken radically different paths, most likely to low-wage, unfulfilling work, underemployment or even unemployment, without the generosity and commitment of our donors.
